      <title>Clear tubing?</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;We are looking for clear rigid tubing.  1-1/4" to 2" diameter (negotiable).  Think PVC pipe except clear instead of white or grey.  We were going to stuff it "full" of LEDs for decorative lighting. We found a supply of tube guards for flourescent lamps both 4' and 8' long, but that tubing is too thin and won't stand up to the wind all that well.  We thought of reinforcing it also but we are still conceptionalizing.

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Does anyone know where to get something like this?  Any pointers in the right (or left) direction would help.  :)

      <title>come work some magic with Flaming Lotus Girls and learn some good skills</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Remember the Angel of the Apocalypse? The Serpent Mother? The fire gardens ?  The Hand of God (it is the picture for this tribe)?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Well this year we are making Mutopia. Yet another huge and over the top fire and metal art piece with electronics incorporated and some steam in there too. Oh and we are doing some Aluminium casting as well. Pick what you are interested in.
&lt;br/&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;We have done a lot of work since then and there is still a lot to do.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The FLG is a mainly female art group. You dont need to have any prior metal working skills as we can show you how to use the equipment. We want you if you are enthusiatic, want to learn new and cool skills, it would be great if you have skills (electronics / metal / tea making / casting) but you shouldn't feel worried about not knowing how to use the tools and equipment.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We welcome women and men from all working backgrounds, abilities.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Production is ramping up and we are only just over a month away from loading it all on a trailer to the burn. You know you want to be part of the busiest all night HOT art pieces on the playa. Point out the bits you welded and grinded on yourself then show your friends where the buttons are for the fire.

      <title>Does your Playa Project Need an Extra Hand?</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I just got the bad news that my early arrival for this years temple crew
&lt;br/&gt;probably fell through...  Anyone out there have an big chunk of playa
&lt;br/&gt;art they need help with a week or two before gates open? I'm in Seattle
&lt;br/&gt;so a local project has some appeal, but really I just want to build
&lt;br/&gt;something amazing on the playa. I'm booked solid until the 10th or so of
&lt;br/&gt;August but after that I'm 100% free to do whatever needs to be done as
&lt;br/&gt;long as I'm dusty while I do it. I even have my own ticket already, so
&lt;br/&gt;if you're limited on comp. tickets but still need a spare hand I'm your
&lt;br/&gt;man.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Guess I should tell ya a bit about myself, and my general usefulness:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;This will be my 6th Burn, and hopefully my 3rd large art project. First
&lt;br/&gt;year my brain was so blown I just couldn't leave, so I stuck around for
&lt;br/&gt;a week and helped BlueHouse break down their GyroSphere...  Not to
&lt;br/&gt;technical, but hey I can load a semi 14 hours a day for a week :-) Last
&lt;br/&gt;year I was one the Black Rock Glacier- got in a week early, did a whole
&lt;br/&gt;lot of setup, metal work, painting, and a ton of hauling, but in the end
&lt;br/&gt;the project just wasn't meant to be... This year I really want to see
&lt;br/&gt;something raise up from nothing.  
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;When I'm not in Black Rock I'm a mechanical engineer/ massage therapist.
&lt;br/&gt;I can cut, paint, screw, nail, prep metal, make lemonaid, and weld just
&lt;br/&gt;a bit. So what do you think, do you have a project that could use me, or
&lt;br/&gt;know someone who does?

      <title>trade electric golf cart repair for costume design?</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;My husband and I are building a mutant vehicle out of an ancient electric golf cart. It doesn't run, but it will. We're building a giant man-in- the-moon that will play lullabies and have stars and carry an assortment of children's books, etc. I live in Berkeley and would like to find someone who a.can repair it b. teach me how to maintain it and troubleshoot and let me watch while they fix it. In the true spirit of Burning Man, I'd love to work out some cool trade. I sew and have made everything from punkrock man kilts to steampunk corsets- they're costumes and don't last forever, but look kick ass. Or if someone wants money, we will hire them to work on it. We are inspired- help us actualize this shit! &lt;/div&gt;

      <description>&lt;div&gt;If you have an oven mitt or two (or 300) that you are willing to part with, you MIGHT just win yourself a ticket to Burning Man 08. Here’s the deal: Major Mallet, Killbuck and I are looking for oven mitts to adorn our “Shrine to the Oven Mitt” art project:

&lt;br/&gt;The most grand is to offer a personal show for the highest bidder, this would be a pro-bono event for you in support of the temple. Think a private swanky party.  Ideally this will be beneficial to you as a marketing tool for other high end parties, or maybe it will be a super fun intimate family style party, or wedding.  If you are interested in this option and have specific terms I am happy to write up the auction how you want.  Of course we can have stipulations....like it has to be in the Bay or LA area to eliminate your travel costs, specific windows of time as to not interfere with your booked shows or it has to be a not for profit event.  Thank you for considering this offering.

&lt;br/&gt;Do you have the desire to share your skills by teaching or mentoring someone? There are many aspiring musicians who look up to you and would flip for an opportunity to chat it up and get some pointers from you, even just have you listen to their music and get your feedback. This could be a really fun experience for you and them. Maybe lunch and a studio session with you, or an afternoon with you creating a track? On  your time and your terms, you just let me know and I will package it up and let the bidding begin. This could be a ton of fun and what a way to personally connect with your fans.

      <description>&lt;div&gt;This is an enormous project. some days we just plug along, some days it feels overwhelming and discouraging. some days it is just a project, some days i realize the depth and brevity of what we are doing... what kind of moments has the temple held space for in your life? in hundreds of thousands of people's lives? think about that and it is no longer just another project......... we got mail yesterday- templates of cardboard with writing on them. brent said that many of them were pretty standard memorial notes, and then there was this one that went straight to his heart and when he told me we both got chills, hair standing on end. this is when we can feel how powerful this thing is. that is isn't any one or even a few people's endeavor. this belongs to thousands of people. and thousands of people are going to contribute to it. mind boggling. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;however, in order to make it available to all of the thousands of people, we few need HELP. please take a moment and think about what the temple has meant to you in the past. it doesn't matter if you are going to burning man or not this year. just take a moment. and then transfer those thoughts into an action of some kind. maybe it's you coming in to work for a day. maybe it's sending us some kind of materials for the physical body of the temple. or buying a ticket to the VIP part of the Sagrada night. or making a donation of $. We are still in need of donations of art, services, etc. for our Auction. The Auction will be held at the Sagrada Fundraiser on the 12th of June.       <title>computers at burningman?</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;i have a thing i want to do at burning man this year that requires a computer. i've secured a very old green mac ibook that should work for my project and i have my printer and digital camera that i'm willing to sacrifice before the playagods if need be. but i'm wondering, have any of you brought computers to burning man and kept them out/running for long periods of time? how did you minimize dust intrusion or other forms of wear and tear. also,  did anyone use any novel ways of powering your setup? i have a large battery that should power it for hopefully 24 - 48 hours (not entirely sure about that though) but i'm wondering if anyone's found any other good ways of doing it. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;i've brought my set up (with my laptop but not with the old mac)  to a couple different places and it went well. nothing that had conditions even remotely like burning man though. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;any advise from the experienced or creative would be wonderful. thanks!&lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Lighting your art?</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;How do you guys light your art? What worked, what didn't? I'm trying to set up an array of solar flood lights to light the Snow Dance, which will be a 100 feet long by 30 foot wide field of skis. My thoughts are that if I set up the lights on the interior, pointing out, that would be enough to keep people from running into it at night. What are your experiences with solar lights?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Also, is there a simple way to set these lights, which are powered by rechargeable batteries and lit by three leds per head, to blink or flash? I think that blinking catches the attention more, and uses less power, guaranteeing that I'll have enough juice every day to make it through the night. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Any other suggestion on how I might light this installation? &lt;/div&gt;

      <title>Blood Vessel Woes</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I've not been asked to post this - I also want to keep all names out of this post, however, some of you will already know the parties involved - please respect my wishes to KEEP NAMES OUT OF THIS. I dont want this to be taken as a negative toward anyone, it truly is not meant to be, I can see each side's reasons for what they're doing. This is a call to save the Blood Vessel, nothing more; I'm friends with everyone involved and wish to remain such... I merely wish to save our art car from being sold off.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The extremely condensed back-story as I know it: the BV was purchased and rebuilt as a partnership vehicle - two friends came together to see her come to reality. She needed a lot of attention, time, and money to rebuild and modify. Those things were put in to each persons level of ability. However, joint ownership is not always an easy venture. Lets just suffice it to say that this one has suffered a few hardships, and to keep the peace after BM07 the joint owners decided to split ways in regards to this project.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Well, that brings us to the here and now - retaining-owner needs to pay off leaving-owner for their portion of the investments. Retaining-owner currently does not have the necessary funds to pay this debt; I'd put up the money, IF I had it, but the sad fact is that I dont. We're not talking a ton of money here, but a substantial enough amount that it's now to the point of we either find a source for the funds, or we're going to have to sell the BV to pay off the debt. I really dont want to see that happen, so I'm turning to my friends, my community and asking for your assistance..... if you'd like to continue to see the BV on the playa, we need financial assistance, and the sooner the better. If leaving-owner can be paid off, we'll be able to move forward with plans for the BV; if not, well, the BV as we know it will be put up for sale.

&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;How can we recognize, articulate, and navigate the politics of art and freedom? What are the roles of our communities, cultures, and societies in enabling or restricting arts and freedoms?  What freedoms are needed to enable artistic expression? What limitations do we struggle against to achieve artistic freedom?  How can freedom be experienced as a form of art? Can art create freedom?   
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;THE ART OF FREEDOM is an Interdisciplinary Arts Conference that will take place on August 28, 2008 in Black Rock City, Nevada at Burning Man (www.burningman.com).  Scholars and creative thinkers from all levels of education and experience are invited to submit proposals for panel presentations.  Conference sessions will typically consist of panels of three 20-minute paper presentations, but we are also open to proposals with creative and unusual presentation formats (feel free to think outside the box!)  
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Possible presentation topics might include (but are not limited to):
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;* Inquiries related to Art, Freedom, and the “American Dream.”
&lt;br/&gt;* Considerations of Burning Man and its relation to culture, society, law, or politics.
&lt;br/&gt;* Discussions of specific Burning Man Art installations or projects.
&lt;br/&gt;* Presentations on censorship in relation to artistic freedom.
&lt;br/&gt;* Proposals for new directions in activism related to art and freedom.
&lt;br/&gt;* Explorations of the relationships between subcultural expression and “mainstream” cultures.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;These are just a few sample topics – we are open to considering any presentation that offers an engaged and/or creative approach to the conference theme.  
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The conference will be hosted by Freedomcommunity at Burning Man, and all participants should be familiar with the unique conditions of the Black Rock City environment.  Note that the minimum cost for attending Burning Man is over $200, so participants should already have plans to attend the festival or should be prepared to embrace the festival in its fullness.

      <title>Homouroboros Dedication Ceremony May 17th!!</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Please join burners, press and public for the Black Rock Arts Foundation ribbon-cutting ceremony for Peter Hudson's Homouroboros installation!  This will be the official kick-off for the Zero1 festival, and the beginning of an entire month of monkey business in downtown San Jose.
&lt;br/&gt; 
&lt;br/&gt;The dedication will take place at 6pm on Saturday, May 17th at the Children's Discovery Museum - Discovery Meadow (directions here: http://tinyurl.com/6bbop3).  Once the ribbon is cut by Melissa Alexander, Executive Director of BRAF, and Peter Hudson, the artist and creator of Homouroboros, the drums will start to pound and the zeotrope will start to spin.  Get ready for what Wired Magazine called the winner of the "WOW, did you see that?" survey at Burning Man 2007.
&lt;br/&gt; 
&lt;br/&gt;Reception follows the ceremony, and the end of civil twilight is at 8:39pm.  Be sure to see this incredible zeotrope at its best ... in full dark ... to appreciate the effects under the strobe lights of what scientists call "the persistence of vision".       <title>Suggestions for an art virgin</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I'll be building a decent sized installation this year, and am looking for any and all help in planning/design. The idea is pretty simple, really. I've collected about 200 skis, and will be installing them in a vertical positon on the playa to create a field of skis approximately 100 feet by 300 feet. The center of the field will include an area for reflection, a couple of benches, and a solitary pair of skis that belonged to a friend.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I've tentatively decided to mount the skis on the playa by driving 3 foot rebar stakes into the ground about 2 feet deep, and using the remaining 1 foot section to bolt to the ski tail. I'll be drilling four holes in the ski and fitting with 2 u-bolts with nuts and plates. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;So, my questions are:
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Do you think this approach will work? 
&lt;br/&gt;Will the wind be too strong for rebar stakes, are the stakes going deep enough, is 1 foot long enough on the ski?
&lt;br/&gt;What's the best way, within a reasonable budget, to drive the rebar? 
&lt;br/&gt;How would you light the project at night? 
&lt;br/&gt;What else should I be considering?&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;G. Cole Allee received her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2007. Her work has been exhibited in San Francisco, LA and Tokyo. She has lived in San Francisco for a decade, teaching photography to youth at risk in Bayview Hunter's Point and recently with the Sixth Street Photography Workshop. She has exhibited her work through out the Bay Area including venues such as the de Young Museum, Recombinant Media Lab, CNMAT, SomArts, 21 Grand, Roxie Cinema, The Lab, The Fine Arts Cinema and Artists Television Access (ATA).  She received a B.F.A in Media Arts from California College of the Arts.  Last October she started the 4d Dream-a-thon experimental film series at The Climate Theater and continues to co-curate the series

&lt;br/&gt;Kaliisa Conlon is a film and video artist based in San Francisco. After performing with her mystic rock band Pizza Party in the Pacific NW, she received her BFA in Film and Video at California College of the Arts in 2007. Kaliisa now co-curates the experimental film series at the Climate Theater in San Francisco and concocts her witchy art and psychic films from her bedroom in the Mission.

&lt;br/&gt;Victoria Mara Heilweil is a photographic artist, educator and curator.  She received her MFA in Photography from California College of the Arts in 1995.  Her work has been exhibited nationally in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Victoria was the curator and co-owner of a cooperative art gallery in the East Village in NYC. Currently, she is one of the Visual Arts curators for the Climate Theater and runs "Show and Tell" a monthly slide slam and pot luck. http://www.victoriaheilweil.com

      <title>Wickerman Burning - a new burn in south central PA</title>

&lt;br/&gt;I wanted to let everyone know about a new burn, and I am part of the planning team for it, so my opinion is biased!
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The burn is "Wicker Man," to be held Thursday through Monday, Memorial Day weekend; and we have a setup weekend, the weekend before. We are trying to lay the groundwork that will grow into a full-on burn, with an amazing site, roads for art cars, a $4,000 art grant budget and plans for a stupendous effigy.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We will be using Four Quarters as our site, which has the rep as one of the most edgy and progressive non-profit camps on the east coast. They have given us their full support for Wicker Man. Four Quarters has a piped water system, hot showers, flush toilets and of course port-a-potties. Buried power lines for their bio-fueled camp generator, a covered stage and three swimming holes. Lots of camping under tall trees and out in the sun too. And 2 miles of gravelled roads. Four Quarters is located 100 miles west of DC and Baltimore, just off I-68.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We want to develop a burn that is art focused and will support big art. And one that has a vision of the future of burns that is sustainable, ecologically responsible and leaves behind a small foot print. Thus "Wicker Man;" the old celebration of the Green Man and Green energy. We already have over 20 theme camps and art projects registered, and we are just beginning our announcements. We plan to have three "Theme Towns." "Sound Town," where we can run sound all night long, like the Gaian MInd psytrance festival held at Four Quarters. "Sin City" down along the river, a cure for what ever ails you. And "Center Circle," a place for nature and spirit; held inside the amazing stone circle at Four Quarters. (Yes, there is a circle of standing stones and they are BIG!)
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;And then there is the Man. Planned at 35 feet high our man stands on a round Temple to the Spirit of Fire, a big enough room that you can enter and place your own art and offerings to the burn. The roof of the temple is a deck upon which stands the Man, and people can stand too.. His belly is the Upper Temple, with room for just one person at a time. Each of his arms will hold a flaming fire pot, and we hope, will move as he burns. This is a huge project and we are looking to get as many people involved in his construction as possible. Ground breaking for the Man is Friday, May 9th, and then the next two weekends until he burns.

&lt;br/&gt;A traditional red, double decker London Transport Routemaster, bus stops on the esplanade, A TIMETABLE, tickets, move down the bus PLEASE, room for one more on top, ding ding, next stop Centre Camp, I'm only doing my job madam, the bowler-hatted businessman rustling his copy of The Times.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Burning Man's first genuine public transport infrastructure, but also a massive art piece, running morning and evening for the whole week.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Are you interested in making this happen? Well BOrg are... that's why they're offering us a Burning Man arts grant to cover PART of the cost of this endeavour.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;This is a tremendous opportunity, but to realise this dream, we need to generate funds. Having done some planning into the costs inherent in getting a bus to the playa and maintaining it safely, we know we need at least a further USD $6,000. And that's where you can help.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;1. Donations. This is a big dream that will only happen with some big kindness and generosity from the community.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We are looking for individual donations of GBP £50 and upwards. In return you get kudos on the website (should you want it) and the warm feeling of having contributed to one of the most spectacular (and useful!) art projects on the playa. If seventy people can scrape together £50 each, we will be able to set this dream in motion on behalf of the whole Burning Man community. Larger and smaller donations are accepted, of course, but hopefully everyone can see that the more people donate, the closer we will all be to seeing things happen.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;We'll be publishing a transparent report of the donation process, with a counter, so that progress can be observed and the website will also be updated with reports of how the whole project is progressing. Your donations will be held safely in account, so if the worst comes to the worst and we cannot collect enough to get the project underway, you will get your donation back. We've already sourced the bus - to get it onto the playa we need your generosity!

&lt;br/&gt;2. People. You can be a performer on the bus, part of the support crew or maybe you have mechanical skills. We need bodies to keep our bus pristine on the playa, to build bus stops and install them and to keep the hippies off of our pride and joy.       <title>Container Storage on the Playa</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I need your help to settle a bet.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I think there's a real need and desire for container storage out on the playa.  My wife isn't so sure.  
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Seems to me that there are a lot of folks who go to Burning Man like we do... have a few boxes full of BM gear, clothes, playa bikes and camp infrastructure that make the trek out to the playa, get dusty, get boxed back up (and sometimes cleaned up), and come all the way home, not to be touched again until it's time to go back out.  Seems like a waste of resources, time and space to me.  Isn't there a way to simplify this process? 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Here's the basic idea:  we drop a container at your camp, which you fill up with all your dusty Burning Man gear, then we come pick it up for you and store it until next year's burn, when it's waiting for you when you get back on playa.  Variations on this theme include container size (one size for camps of 3-4 people, the other those 20' shipping containers for big theme camps), use of containers during the festival as kitchens or shelter, transport of containers from or to your home, perhaps stored for a year or two in between.  We could store your bike for you for the year, so all you have to do is pack 4 to a car (plus food) and just show up.  Storing art cars is another possibility, although most likely a bit further down the road.  You get the idea.

Similarly, if all the interest comes when everyone's packing up on Sunday after the burn, we won't have been able to plan for it.  So we need to know:  would something like this be of interest to you, and if so, can you take 4-8 minutes to tell me so, and how, and why?  Or if there is someone you think might be interested in using a service like this, can you forward this to them and encourage them to respond in the next day or two?  The link again:

&lt;br/&gt;Our installation from last year, the "Swirling Vortex", is currently collecting dust (or, shedding dust, I guess), in my basement.  It's looking for a good home.  Anyone have any ideas?

&lt;br/&gt;The rungs are made of heavy-duty PVC electrical conduit.  The base is all steel.

&lt;br/&gt;My main goal is to get it out of my basement!  I would love to pass it on to someone who wants to either set it up somewhere else, or wants to reuse any of the parts in a new creation.  The base, in particular, is very strong and versatile -- if you've got a project idea for something that spins, it could easily be repurposed.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Worst case, I'll donate the steel and scrap the conduit.  But, I'd love to find a better home for it!

My wife and I own an electric golf cart in very good mechanical condition. &lt;br/&gt;The price is $1500 or best offer. The cart has a set of batteries that is 18 months old and has hardly been used. The cart has been to Burning Man twice. The first time was in 2004. The second was in 2006, and I replaced the batteries with new Trojan units right before we left for BM 2006. It has not been back to BM since. We have very limited storage and therefore have decided to let it go. The body is scratched in various places on the panels and metalwork. The roof is painted fluorescent pink, as we decorated the whole cart in pink fur. I removed all the fur, as it got very dirty (big surprise) out there! The bench seat and seat backs are in great condition as they were wrapped in fur that protected them. I have cleaned the whole vehicle carefully. It has two switched 48VDC circuits on it that can be used for lighting the cart up. &lt;/div&gt;

      <title>battery powered art lighting question...</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;howdy, 
&lt;br/&gt;I'm bringing an installation to the playa and in past years have resorted to just using solar patio lights, which are nice because they turn themselves on (&amp;amp; are solar) but aren't very bright. 
&lt;br/&gt;I've seen some folks with bright LED setups w/ battery power--does anyone know a good source of playa art lighting like this? 
&lt;br/&gt;Any ideas would be gretly appreciated.

      <title>I need old skis!</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I'm building a project for this years' burn as a tribute to my friend 
&lt;br/&gt;Brad who died skiing here in Idaho. Imagine a field of skis, tails buried 
&lt;br/&gt;in the playa, with a pathway that leads to a solitary pair, tips 
&lt;br/&gt;buried, helmet hanging on the tails, a tribute to a fallen friend. To 
&lt;br/&gt;achieve this I need those old skis that are hanging in your garage, 
&lt;br/&gt;never to be skied again. I'm hoping for at least 100 pairs. Please 
&lt;br/&gt;email me at graydon @ cableone. net if you can help! I would ask folks to start hoarding them now, and 
&lt;br/&gt;either bring them to the burn, or we'll figure out a way to get them from you. &lt;/div&gt;

&lt;br/&gt;California Community Foundation Invites Los Angeles Artists to Apply for Visual Arts Fellowships 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The California Community Foundation is accepting applications for its 2008 Fellowships for Visual Artists. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;The foundation will award a total of $260,000 in fellowships to fourteen Los Angeles artists working in the visual arts. Ten fellowships of $20,000 each will be awarded to mid-career artists, while four fellowships of $15,000 each will be awarded to emerging artists. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Artists must be working in the visual arts (e.g., painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, installation, experimental film and video, interdisciplinary/mixed media, or performance art in which visual art must be a significant and integral component). Artists whose primary practice is performing or media arts (e.g., music, dance, acting, film, video, or moving animation) are not eligible. 
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;"Mid-career artists" are defined as artists who have seven or more years of active professional experience in their field. "Emerging artists" are defined as artists who have up to seven years of professional experience in their field (excluding accomplishments during bachelor�s or master�s degree programs). All applicants must have resided full-time in Los Angeles County for at least five years prior to the application deadline.

&lt;br/&gt;2. I am an individual artist but have worked with an artistic team (or collaborative) for the past 10 years. All of my work samples reflect my team (collaborative). Should I apply as an individual or as a team?

&lt;br/&gt;The Fellowships for Visual Artists are for individual artists. Each individual artist who is part of the team (collaborative) is eligible to apply. However, recognition will be given only to the individual artist who receives the award.

      <title>Four Person Bike Car - Party on Wheels - Vis-a-Vis Velocipede</title>

&lt;br/&gt; Last year my friends and I came up with the idea of building a four person bike car.  Not just any bike car, but one where all of the passengers can face each other as they ride so that they can enjoy a good conversation.  Well a couple thousand hours and dollars later, our dream became a reality.  The Vis-a-Vis Velocipede made it's green man debut in 2007.  Permit free and solid.  It is a great ride.  Well built and great fun.  One to four people can ride it.    Ride alone and pick up friends on the way.  Since we are all going to Maui together this year and are also building diesel motorcycles, it is now for sale (with no reserve!). &lt;br/&gt;Ladies and gentlemen of the art world, we are seeking any and all creative humans who use their skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, or experiences that can be shared with others. That is, we are looking for those whose life is art, and everything they do is DIY. We are searching for those who are creating the Hand-Made Nation. We are calling !ALL! make-believers, dreamers and reality re-arrangers. We are searching hi and low for lowbrow-urban-contemporary-pop-surrealism,  pop art, op art, hard-edge, lyrical abstraction, post minimalism, which might be interpreted by some to mean that we are looking only for painters, but that is most definitely not the case. For you see, of course, we need masters of typography, sketchers, illustrators, satirical stencilers, screen printing is way cool, and yes, you too, graffiti fools. Least we forget every culture jammer in the hood. Do you manipulate earth/land/sand/plants/junk into art? Then we have a home for you.

&lt;br/&gt;Now, we know some of you may be thinking “What about Dadas’ Dadaists, though?” To this we say, but of course we are calling all inspired by DADA- for where would art be without fluxists, productivism, neoplasticism, pittura, metafisica, arbeitsrat and bauhaus. Well, we are looking for all of “you” from then and now, if any of you still are around. And one may wonder… What about the cubists? We say, “But of course.” Conceptualists? Indeed. Installationists? Please! One might ask if we are seeking anything that might fall under postmodernist modernist who are not distracted by abstractionists and other IST’S. Of course there is always impressionism, post-minimalism, pre-contemporaryism, and expressionism. Are you working in symbolism or surrealism or any of the other -isms that we have not yet mentioned? Well come on out. But wait that’s not all, that could not possibly be all this call for ARTE is all about? Well, Dali you’re right, 
&lt;br/&gt;	
&lt;br/&gt;This call goes out to all kinetic sculptors, fire sculptors, sound artists bending invisible waves, and video projectionists playing with light. We must invite the minds of the poets and their spoken slam voices, along with improv comedians who mimic the true history of time. Or was that the klown? How can we forget about the klowns! Mimes? Performers “performing” art, puppeteers with their puppets, musicians making sounds. Oh, and least we forget outsider artists wanting to be outside.

&lt;br/&gt;In short, we invite all the conceivable movements, modes, and theories of art known to wo/man kind. (we're not looking to invest yet, just finding out our options.) if we needed a place to create it, how do we go about finding warehouse space? how do we find volunteers who might be interested in going in on this?

      <title>solar LED lights?</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;Hey fellow creators,
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I'm looking for lighting to go on a collaborative art project for BM this year.  We want to use solar LED lighting for nighttime illumination.  I have a low budget, my partner has a low budget.  I'm applying for a grant, but obviously we are not counting on getting it.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I would *ideally* like some small LED lights to go on the sculpture (6' metal sculpture with many small nooks and crannies) and some way to mark the area around it for safety reasons.  It's going to sit inside an area that is roughly 7' by 4'.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Does anyone know the best and most economical way to do this?  Or does anyone have any lights they could donate to a Portland burner who would gladly return them or pass them on after the burn?
&lt;br/&gt;

      <title>Experiences of the Tasseograph</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;I'm an ethnographer completing my Master's degree in Folklore.  I stumbled upon the Tasseograph Trash Tea Temple while at a festival this summer and was compelled to write my thesis on this creation by Shrine and TukTuk.  I have my own meanings and experiences associated with the Tasseograph, but I wanted to get a sense of other people's involvement or experiences with the structure.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;I am interested to hear any stories, experiences, rituals, or performances at, with, or around the Tasseograph from the community of Burners.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Did you get married there?  
&lt;br/&gt;Were you part of the crystal singing bowl enclave that kept the temple vibrating throughout the temple burn?  
&lt;br/&gt;Did you participate in any of the tea ceremonies?  
&lt;br/&gt;Were you dancing there at dawn?
&lt;br/&gt;Did you have profound moments of contemplation?
&lt;br/&gt;What meaning does the Tasseograph have to you?
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;Any kind of experience would be helpful as I try to decipher what the Tasseograph means to the community and the culture of Burning Man.

      <title>The Enormous Bicycle</title>

      <description>&lt;div&gt;was not always this huge, nor I. 
&lt;br/&gt;We grew like redwoods, equally 
&lt;br/&gt;slow, together. I found 
&lt;br/&gt;my bicycle crippled, tireless, 
&lt;br/&gt;tangled in the kudzu. Resurrected, 
&lt;br/&gt;shining like a Cadillac, we pedalled 
&lt;br/&gt;Southern streets, the diamonds 
&lt;br/&gt;sparkling in the asphalt rushing 
&lt;br/&gt;beneath us. I felt the tug 
&lt;br/&gt;of my bicycle while chained 
&lt;br/&gt;to its rack outside the Highlander, 
&lt;br/&gt;where I'd chained myself 
&lt;br/&gt;to a barstool. My bicycle grew 
&lt;br/&gt;lonely. I found another bicycle 
&lt;br/&gt;rusting in the Salvation Army. 
&lt;br/&gt;Sparks flew, molten metal, a bicycle 
&lt;br/&gt;marriage. Still, my bicycle pestered 
&lt;br/&gt;me from its lonely bike rack, 
&lt;br/&gt;witnessing after-school fights 
&lt;br/&gt;while I licked away the amber 
&lt;br/&gt;whiskey trapped in my cuticles. 
&lt;br/&gt;I bought my bicycle shots of Jaeger. 
&lt;br/&gt;We rode to Vickery's, to the Righteous 
&lt;br/&gt;Room, to Smith's. My bicycle and I 
&lt;br/&gt;grew attached--as they say--at the hip. 
&lt;br/&gt;Though, realistically, we'd fused 
&lt;br/&gt;at the crotch. Soon I saw the pebbles 
&lt;br/&gt;below the tires were really boulders 
&lt;br/&gt;and automobiles, that the bike trail 
&lt;br/&gt;was actually a grid of city streets, 
&lt;br/&gt;and the patchwork I had taken 
&lt;br/&gt;for flagstones were houses 
&lt;br/&gt;and skyscrapers. My bicycle and I 
&lt;br/&gt;topped mountains, no bunnyhopped 
&lt;br/&gt;the Rockies, splashed across a puddle-- 
&lt;br/&gt;the Pacific. We dipped gingerly down 
&lt;br/&gt;the side of Everest and ground the spokes 
&lt;br/&gt;against the Great Wall. And soon 
&lt;br/&gt;my bicycle and I had grown 
&lt;br/&gt;too big, even, for the planet, each orbit 
&lt;br/&gt;a single secondary lap. My cap 
&lt;br/&gt;knocked the space station into 
&lt;br/&gt;the asteroid belt. I stroked the moon 
&lt;br/&gt;and my fingers came away gray with dust. 
&lt;br/&gt;My retinas sizzled in the sun's rays. &lt;/div&gt;
