Lighting your art?

How do you guys light your art? What worked, what didn't? I'm trying to set up an array of solar flood lights to light the Snow Dance, which will be a 100 feet long by 30 foot wide field of skis. My thoughts are that if I set up the lights on the interior, pointing out, that would be enough to keep people from running into it at night. What are your experiences with solar lights?

Also, is there a simple way to set these lights, which are powered by rechargeable batteries and lit by three leds per head, to blink or flash? I think that blinking catches the attention more, and uses less power, guaranteeing that I'll have enough juice every day to make it through the night.

Any other suggestion on how I might light this installation?
