We are looking for clear rigid tubing. 1-1/4" to 2" diameter (negotiable). Think PVC pipe except clear instead of white or grey. We were going to stuff it "full" of LEDs for decorative lighting. We found a supply of tube guards for flourescent lamps both 4' and 8' long, but that tubing is too thin and won't stand up to the wind all that well. We thought of reinforcing it also but we are still conceptionalizing.
Does anyone know where to get something like this? Any pointers in the right (or left) direction would help. :)
Any other Tribes where this post may be more appropriate?
Tanks a bunch!!!

Re: Clear tubing?
Mon, July 7, 2008 - 2:28 PMYou mean like this?
www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php
Don't know if they have Tap Plastics where you are. Easiest (but not cheapest) place I know of to get plastics.

Re: Clear tubing?
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 6:56 AMNot all fluorescent tube guards are the same. Some are really thin -- others are much thicker. My wife and I found some that are really thick compared to others I've seen. The wall thickness is 1.7mm and they are 4' long. The worst wind on the playa would do nothing to these (although like any plastic it would get scratched over time). Tubes are already very strong because of the geometry -- they strength of a larger diameter tube is much greater than a narrow tube. These are 38.1mm in diameter. -

Re: Clear tubing?
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 1:36 PMWe are looking to make a large snowflake and it will need to make many trips all around the country to many events so we are looking for the thick walled type.
I appreciate the responses.

Re: Clear tubing?
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 1:16 PMI love tap plastics too. Sometimes they can be a little pricey though, often times I find that McMaster-Carr has the same stuff for cheaper... but they provide just about everything under the sun, so sometimes it's hard to find exactly what you're looking for.
Ugh... can't post a direct link...
hit www.mcmaster.com/ and search for clear pipe in the side bar.
Good luck, sounds like an fun project. ~p.
